Workshops + Support Groups

Here at Healthy Routes we believe education, combined with support is one of the most powerful tools to promote positive, lasting change. For that reason we are continuously developing new workshops and ongoing support groups that help to address the ever evolving needs of parents, youth and young adults.  (Click one of the options below to jump to that section)

Self -Esteem and Life Skills Workshops
Youth Workshops (Self-Esteem and Life Skills)

Healthy Routes is proud to collaborate with a diverse set of professionals who contribute to our programs' development. The series was developed in collaboration with a team of consultants, youth psychotherapists, certified Ontario teachers, curriculum specialists, and technical writers to meet the various needs of the participants. These workshops are best for youth aged 9-16 years.

Preteens and teens develop at alternating rates on both an emotional and physical level during the adolescent years. We tailor our workshops to meet their needs.

The goal of these workshops is to:

  • Foster self-awareness, resiliency, and a positive attitude.

  • Create a supportive and safe environment for peers to come together.

  • Provide youth with practical tools that can assist them in managing conflict, toxic friendships, stress & worry.

Youth will work in small groups throughout the various workshops to enhance their personal and interpersonal skills. The program combines reflection, self-exploration, and interactive activities to teach teens a variety of life skills, techniques, and coping skills that will be helpful through their teenage years.

Parent Workshops
Parent Education & Workshops

There are no books that truly prepare us for what's to come when we become a parent. Every relationship with our children is unique; one parenting style may work well with one or some of your children while others may be better fitting for different personalities and times in their lives. There is no "one size fits all" and as our children grow up we are faced with the challenges of a changing and modernizing world –where some of us may struggle to be able to understand and relate with their needs.

Parent education is a series of psycho-educational Workshops designed to help identify signs, symptoms, warnings and "red flags"in children that may warrant high-risk behaviour. In these workshops, we give parents proactive and practical strategies to help better understand and handle the effects (or recognition) of these behaviours. Parents leave feeling informed, empowered and more comfortable being able to broach sensitive or difficult subjects with their children, knowing there are ways to handle them with support.

These online, virtual workshops are usually about 1-2 hours in length and are incredibly topical and relevant; with new content being created regularly. Topics include anxiety, social media, bullying, self-esteem as well as signs and symptoms surrounding possible drug use, self-harm, eating disorders. Every workshop provides simple, ready-to-use strategies and additional support recommendations so parents know they are not in this alone.

CUSTOM & ON-DEMAND WORKSHOPS ARE AVAILABLE upon request. If you would like to host a workshop on behalf of a group you are involved with (through your children's school, organizations, extended family or friends) or have a particular subject you would like to see yourself and more parents educated on, please contact support@healthyroutes.ca. Otherwise, we recommend staying up to date with upcoming workshops by following our Facebook page, or requesting that we contact you when new workshops become available.

THE OUTCOME of all these workshops is to help parents develop a deeper, healthier relationship with their children by giving them the tools, strategies and awareness of possible challenges their children are facing.

Monthly Support Groups
Online Monthly Support Groups

These workshops are held on the first Tuesday of every month at two different times (noon and 7pm) to help account for busy lifestyles and availabilities. There is a limit of 25 participants in each monthly support group, we recommend registering earlier to save your seat.

This online service is available to parents who are looking to connect on a drop-in or once-a-month basis to connect, share and feel supported. In these (1-2 hour) sessions we hold space for parents, families and caregivers to come together and learn from each other in a peer-to-peer setting. It is a judgement free zone to give each other space to communicate challenges and offer insight/support based on our own experiences with parenting. While there is some element of informal learning, these support groups are not designed to provide coaching or counselling; they are best suited for parents looking for space to express and learn from each other.
