"How do I know if Anxiety is an issue for my child?"

Anxiety in the home can show itself in many ways, and is often temporary. However; worry, overthinking, obsessing and avoidance of activities can start to become a bigger issue into adulthood if left untreated. To help catch this early on, look for behaviours that seem to be preventing them from moving forward with particular challenges in life (such as school, routines, certain activities or relationships with food, people and things) that has lasted three months or longer.

FAQS

"Why is my child showing signs of anxiety?"

Youth anxiety is a common experience, and many factors contribute to this, including social media, effects from the pandemic, peer pressure, and high expectations from themselves or from their parents/caregivers. Left unaddressed, these expectations can exacerbate anxiety symptoms. CBT is a cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) that teaches young people to recognize intrusive anxious thoughts and to manage them effectively. A young person can gain better control over their anxiety by identifying their triggers and implementing healthy coping mechanisms. Our goal is to restore your child's control over their lives and to empower them to become happier, more confident, and peaceful individuals.

"What do these counselling sessions consist of?"

When seeking this type of counselling, families can expect a safe and supportive environment in the comfort of their home where their child will learn to recognize and manage their anxiety. We will work with the child to develop a personalized treatment plan, which may involve various techniques such as CBT and relaxation techniques. Your child will learn how to recognize their anxious thoughts and feelings, develop coping strategies to manage it and practice these techniques in a supportive environment. We may also work with the family to develop strategies to support their child outside of therapy sessions.

"What results can I expect to see?"

Within 3-6 weeks children will begin to feel like they are regaining control of their lives. Parents and children will experience a newfound sense of peace and confidence by better understanding how anxiety affects them (physically, emotionally and mentally). This, coupled with new tools and easy-to-follow routines will continue to help shift anxious children into calmer, more confident versions of themselves for years to come.
